Up Close with a Baby Humpback Whale: Pacific Ocean Spectacle
In an intense 45-minute session, I captured 4,000 images, a personal record for such a brief period. I was close enough to fear a the tail striking the water to close to me, but as I later observed the video footage, I realized there was no need for concern. This intelligent young whale was fully aware of my presence, carefully avoiding any contact.
Whales are highly intelligent creatures that can sense when another person or animal is a threat. I think they often contemplate how big they are, in order for them to be this mindful of a smaller creature’s delicate existence.
